Retreat with Friends....

No we didn't take a class, no we didn't plan to make these and no we don't even have babies to give them to... It just sort of happen! Thanks to Moda Bake Shop for the pattern, thanks to Chris for planning to make her own and influencing the rest of us, thanks to Lou for supplying the repro fabric, thanks to June for joining in and playing along and thanks to Peggy for having retreats so we can get away and just do something 'cause we feel like it.

Customer's Quilt

I quilted this for a well known member of the Bayside Guild.

Oh my it has been awhile since I have posted...

For that matter it has been a while since I have had time to post... New job in Oxford is going well and I am finally settling in.  Will still be awhile though before the work hours are reasonable. My son is officially at Navy Boot Camp and we are patiently waiting through the 3 week period before the next time he can contact us...

Lou's Wall Hanging

Used at least ten different thread colors to emphasis the art work on this pieced panel wall hang.

The Lone Star had to be put aside for other work...

Worked on Star points...

And four smaller stars...

The back of the first border as I rolled it off to be put away for another day...

The back of one the four small stars...
And four corner blocks are done.... Still have about 75% of the quilt to finish...

I think we are getting somewhere... first border done... only 100 more inches to go...

Used cross hatching in the background of the embossed feathers.

Adding feather art to the first border of the king size swap fabric quilt...

I swear there is a brightly colored lone star in this top... still working on the first border.

My grandniece letting me know she is using her quilt along with the matching quilt for her American Girl doll. Apparently her mom said she had to put the quilt back on her bed...

I sent her a text at the baby shower for my niece letting her know that
I would make her a quilt to celebrate the addition of a new brother.
She quickly responded with a picture of  this 'template'  for use in designing her quilt.
You will notice I followed all of her request like a good Aunt would.

Birds of a Feather...

Had a great weekend at Virginia Long Arm's "Birds of a Feather" educational retreat in Lancaster, PA.

The beautiful dragonfly and feathers quilted here where done by Jamie Wallen one of the great instructors, whose class I was lucky enough to get into before it filled up. I thoroughly enjoyed the classes and planned to use what I learned to stitch some of these feathers on a quilt real soon.... You can see more if his work at www.jamiewallenfineartquilting.com.

This quilt, done by instructor Sue Papalia, was a real 'Mini Quilt' - note the coke bottle - the blocks used in the center looked to be less than a 1/2 inch. Her class "How do I quilt this?"was great, allowing us to bring in a quilt top for everyone to discuss. I brought my  "Seven Sister's Swap Quilt," the king size lone star I am suppose to have done by March to get suggestions. Sue's website: www.zanykreations.com

Thanks to Lou and Karli for coming along and hanging out with me for the weekend. Pringles, Oreos and a sewing machine, what more does one need to live in a hotel room. Oh there was the great indoor pool/playground for entertainment. We decided on the drive home Karli spent more time in the pool then I did sleeping...
